Is it ok to add radiator stop leak to the radiator reservoir?

I think I may have a small leak in the heater core on my old car, I bought some "Bars" brand radiator stop leak but cannot get the radiator cap off. Is okay to add the stop leak to the reservoir? thanks for any assistance.
